Pediatric Eye Exams
Proper vision is essential to your child’s learning and development. Children with uncorrected vision problems can have problems. Regular eye exams can help make sure your child reaches their full potential.
HOW OFTEN DOES YOUR CHILD NEED AN EYE EXAM?
Many factors can influence how often a child should have an eye exam. For most children, the Canadian Optometric Association recommends the following eye exam schedule:
Once between the ages of 6 and 12 months
Once between the ages of 3 and 5 years
Once every year between the ages of 6 and 17 years
Your optometrist will be able to recommend the best exam schedule for your child following their eye exam. A family history of vision problems or eye diseases might mean more frequent eye exams recommended for your child.
